“…It is widely accepted that gross signs are useful for presumptive diagnosis, but this needs to be confirmed by more specific histological, microbiological or molecular methods. The gross sign of scale loss ("scale drop") occurs not only with SDDV-infected fish but also with other diseases in farmed sea bass such as Tenacibaculosis caused by T. maritimum (Avendano-Herrera, Toranzo, & Magarinos, 2006) and "scale drop and muscle necrosis disease (SDMND)" in Vietnamese sea bass farms (Dong, Taengphu et al, 2017). The latter case involved multiple infections of both culturable and unculturable bacteria, and a unique isolate of Vibrio harveyi was found to play a major role (Dong, Taengphu et al, 2017;Kayansamruaj et al, 2018).…”
