Recording Spectroradiometers for Luminescent Materials

Abstract: Instrumentation programs for the careful measurement of spectral energy distributions emitted by luminescent materials have been an important part of Sylvania's research activities for a number of years. Accurate knowledge of these properties is of value not only in the study of the fundamentals of the luminescent process, but also in the development and manufacturing control of the phosphors used in fluorescent lamps and in cathode‐ray tubes. The objective of this paper is to describe a pair of automatic recor… Show more

“…The coated bulbs were baked to remove the binder, electrodes sealed in, and the lamps exhausted on production equipment, with 20-watt lamps of the usual fluorescent type being made. The spectral energy distribution of the lamps was measured on a spectroradiometer, described in a recent paper (6), which plots automatically the relative emitted energy as a function of wavelength. The color parameters of the phosphor emission were computed for the I.C.I.…”

“…Recording spectroradiometers have been developed by Parsons and his associates (123) for the automatic recording of the energy distributions emitted by luminescent materials. The fluorescent spectra of dyestuffs on cloth have been obtained with modifications of the Carey (109) and Beckman (143) spectrophotometers.…”

“…Recording spectrophotometers designed for measuring the emission of phosphors and of luminescent devices have been described by Studer and Jacobson (44) and by Parsons, Martin, and Roberto (45).…”
