Reconstruction of the Frank vectorcardiogram from standard electrocardiographic leads: diagnostic comparison of different methods

Abstract: Three methods for reconstructing the Frank VCG from the standard 12-lead ECG were studied. The first was based on multivariate regression, the second on a model of the cardio-electrical activity, and the third method used a quasi-orthogonal set of ECG leads. The methods were evaluated on a test set of 90 cases by a numerical distance measure and by the agreement in diagnostic classification of the original and reconstructed VCGs. The original and reconstructed VCGs were presented separately and in random order… Show more

“…We chose to do so because true VCG electrodes are rarely used in recent literature. Among all methods to estimate a VCG from a 12-lead ECG, the Kors matrix is the most accurate [23,24].…”

“…Standard 10-second ECGs were stored in an 8-lead (I, II, II, V1-V6), 5000 sample comma-separated-value file. The Kors matrix was used to calculate vector cardiograms (VCG) from the eight independent ECG leads (22). ECGs and VCGs were analyzed using the automatic MATLAB-based (The MathWorks, Natick, MA) program BEATS and the semiautomatic program LEADS (23,24).…”

“…To derive T-loop descriptors, orthogonal X, Y, and 2 leads were reconstructed from the standard 12 ECG leads.15, 259 26 From the spatial T loop and its projection on the frontal (XU) plane, the following parameters were automatically calculated: the amplitude of the maximum T vector (T amplitude) and the angle between the maximum T vector and X axis (Tangle).…”
