Reconstruction of a 3D Human Foot Shape Model Based on a Video Stream Using Photogrammetry and Deep Neural Networks

Abstract: Reconstructed 3D foot models can be used for 3D printing and further manufacturing of individual orthopedic shoes, as well as in medical research and for online shoe shopping. This study presents a technique based on the approach and algorithms of photogrammetry. The presented technique was used to reconstruct a 3D model of the foot shape, including the lower arch, using smartphone images. The technique is based on modern computer vision and artificial intelligence algorithms designed for image processing, obt… Show more

“…The second most popular field is medical applications. Solutions that allow recreating the shape and size of individual parts of the body [ 45 , 46 , 47 , 57 , 58 ] and models for the needs of, e.g., prostheses or plastic surgeries [ 48 , 49 , 51 , 63 ] are predominant here. In the case of geological issues, the analysis of rock porosity and roughness is a common topic [ 65 , 66 ], while in geomorphology it is popular to create digital models of various types of geomorphological forms (e.g., cliffs, caves) [ 70 , 71 ].…”

“…By taking photographs of the foot in different positions, photogrammetry can be used to create a 3D model of the foot that can be used to design custom orthotics. So, the photogrammetry is a useful tool in the assessment and treatment of foot-related conditions, as well as in the design of custom orthotics and footwear (26).…”

“…Structure from motion will reconstruct 3D points from the input images. Depth Map retrieves the depth value of each pixel for all cameras that have been resolved by SFM (Alice Vision Inc 2021, Shilov et al 2021). Certain depth maps will claim to see areas that are occluded by other depth maps (Stark et al 2022, Berio andBayle 2020).…”
