Reconstruction and Scientific Explanation of Akar Kuning (Arcangelisia flava Merr.) From West Sumatra as Ethnomedicine and Source of Science Learning

Abstract: It is known that the Akar Kuning plant contains various bioactive compounds, one of the most famous being berberine. Akar Kuning are lianas, up to 20 m long, living in lowlands up to 800 m above sea level (asl). The leaves are thick and strong like skin, oval shaped, blunt not sharp, leaf width 7 cm to 20 cm, glossy top surface and long stalk. The flowers are housed in two small sizes arranged in a series of glabrous 20 cm to 50 cm, greenish-white or yellowish-white with buds. 5 The wood is yellow, its purpose… Show more

“…Figure 6 shows that there were five authors in red cluster, followed by five authors in green cluster, five authors in blue cluster, three authors in yellow cluster, and two authors in purple cluster. The authors in red cluster simultaneously conducted the research about ethnomedicine-based science learning [22]. Some researches related to local wisdom-based Spermatophyta learning and ethno-science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM)-based science education were carried out by the authors in green cluster and purple cluster [56], [57].…”

“…Other minor alkaloids include columbamine, dehydrokoridalmin, homoaromolin, and talifendin. 9 The most common bioactive compound is berberine, it is used as an antibacterial treatment by decreasing bacterial protein and cell wall synthesis, 10 an antiinflammatory agent by inhibiting iNOS, 11 an antimalarial agent, 12 and an anticancer agent against MCF-7 (breast adenocarcinoma) and EGFR-2 (HER2-Positive) breast cancer line. 13 Pachybasin also possesses antimicrobial properties.…”
