Reconsidering the Optionality of Raising in Japanese Exceptional‐Case‐Marking Constructions

Abstract: This article examines two arguments for the optionality of raising in Japanese exceptional‐Case‐marking constructions and proposes that certain observations can be accounted for even if we assume that raising is obligatory.
