“…Castillo et al (2001b) confirmed that the assignment of S-genotypes by the CAPS (S 1 to S 7 ) system coincided with that by pollination experiments. Thus, the CAPS (S 1 to S 7 ) system was shown to be highly reliable for identifying the S-genotypes of cultivars with S 1 -to S 7 -haplotypes.…”

“…The S-genotypes of 'Akaho', 'Tanzawa', 'Kimizukawase', 'Choju', and 'Kumoi' were previously determined by pollination experiments as S 1 S 2 , S 3 S 5 /S 3 S 4 , S 2 S 5 , S 2 S 5 , and S 3 S 4 , respectively (Ogaki, 1958;Terami et al, 1946;Yasunobu et al, 1977). Using the CAPS systems, the S-genotypes of 'Akaho', 'Tanzawa', 'Kimizukawase', 'Choju', and 'Kumoi' were reassigned as S 3 S 5 , S 4 S 5 , S 1 S 5 , S 1 S 5 , and S 1 S 3 , respectively (Castillo et al, 2001b;Okada et al, 2004). The reassigned S-genotypes of 'Akaho', 'Tanzawa', and 'Kumoi' were confirmed by pollination experiments (Castillo et al, 2001b;Okada et al, 2004).…”

“…Nine S-RNase alleles corresponding to S 1 to S 9 have been cloned from six cultivars (Castillo et al, 2002;Ishimizu et al, 1998;Norioka et al, 1996;. Based on the nucleotide sequences of S 1 -to S 9 -RNases, cleaved amplified polymorphic sequence (CAPS) marker systems have been established for rapid S-genotyping (Ishimizu et al, 1999;Takasaki et al, 2004), and have assigned S-genotypes of 79 cultivars and selection lines (Castillo et al, 2001;Ishimizu et al, 1999;Kim et al, 2007;Okada et al, 2004;Sawamura et al, 2002;Takasaki et al, 2004). These results show that the S-genotypes of the recent cultivars consist of various pairs of only nine S-alleles (S 1 to S 9 ).…”
