Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface Enabled IoT Networks in Generalized Fading Channels

Abstract: This paper studies an Internet-of-Things (IoT) network employing a reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) over generalized fading channels. Inspired by the promising potential of RIS-based transmission, we investigate a RIS-enabled IoT network with the source node employing a RIS-based access point. The system is modelled with reference to a receivertransmitter pair and the Fisher-Snedecor F model is adopted to analyse the composite fading and shadowing channel. Closedform expressions are derived for the sys… Show more

“…In massive power-constrained internet-of-things (IoT) networks, the enhanced energy and spectral efficiency can be achieved by limiting the communication range to short distances. In this respect, LIS is considered as a promising energy-efficient solution to extend the communication range [27]. Multiple LISs can be efficiently utilized in order to connect far IoT devices, and to allow these devices to reliably communicate with higher data rates.…”

“…A hardware implementation of the GS-IoT framework was carried out using Arduino based Bluetooth low power enabled sensor nodes in a smart campus environment [40,41]. Ten hardware nodes were added gradually as an overall coverage area in such a way that effective communication was possible [42].…”

“…Thus, obtaining asymptotic expression from (16) will help in providing more insight about the system behaviour at high SNR region. Neglecting the last term of (15) gives an accurate end-to-end equivalent CDF at high SNR and can be expressed as [31]:…”
