Reconfigurable Antennas and Their Applications

Abstract: In this chapter, a summary of the various components, categorization, and design process of reconfigurable antennas is presented. The various applications where reconfigurable antennas have been implemented and the association of various antenna properties with new communication applications are discussed. The chapter takes into consideration new and evolving applications and associate novel antenna designs with these applications. The control, modeling, and optimization of reconfigurable antennas are also det… Show more

“…The reconfigurability of antenna properties has attracted the attention of researchers in the field of wireless communications, especially in mobile and satellite applications (Haider et al 2013;Priya 2020;Ojaroudi Parchin et al 2020;Costantine et al 2014). The most popular antenna parameters that can be reconfigured are the operating frequencies, radiation pattern, and polarization (Shakhirul et al 2018), (Costantine et al 2015).…”

“…Although the highest mechanical properties, graphene material has impressive flexibility [6]. Reconfigurability of the antenna's properties has attracted the attention of researchers in the field of wireless communications, especially mobile and satellite [7][8][9][10]. The most popular antenna properties that can be reconfigurable are the operating frequencies, the radiation pattern, and the polarization [11], [12].…”

“…This change is gained through many techniques that redistribute the antenna currents and thus alter the electromagnetic fields of the antenna's effective aperture. Frequency reconfiguration techniques are based on the use of switches to connect and disconnect antenna parts as well as to redistribute the antenna currents [14][15][16][17][18][19].…”
