Employee social network strategies play a key role in firm strategies and organizational performance. Currently, scholars underestimate the contributions of employee social strategies in firm strategies. Little is known how informal employee social networks, group entitativity and competition could shape and direct firm strategies and organizational performance. The article examines social network theory and strategic management’s content, process and open schools of thought to propose a new interpretation for managing firm strategies. More specifically, the author examines alternate causal paths, underlying processes and structures as mechanisms in employee social network strategies within a theoretical framework. The article proposes 4 theoretically driven propositions and makes two contributions. First, the article contributes to organizational behavior literature by focusing on the literature gap in network dynamics and competitive actions through employee social networks. Second, although there is immense literature on positive and negative employee competition in business, the article makes a contribution to the strategic management literature by moving beyond formalized structures and roles within an organization to focus on the multilevel informal workplace social interactions and processes that impact strategizing activities. Overall, the article extends strategy research in relation to how employee social networks operate through competition and group entitativity in firm strategies.

Business-to-business (B2B) sharing constitutes a neglected part of the model of the sharing economy. A part which does however have considerable potential as it is a source of positive economic, environmental and social impacts. The aim of the authors of the article is to identify and evaluate areas and types of B2B sharing used by industrial companies and potentially possible types. Seven possible areas of B2B sharing were identified on the basis of systematic literature review and semi-structured interviews with managers from selected industrial companies operating in the Czech Republic. This specifically concerns the area of sharing employees, vehicles, premises, other types of tangible assets, information and knowledge, financial and insurance services and non-financial services. The alternative types of these are identified in the article and discussion is presented of their benefits and possible risks from the point of view of industrial businesses. Some of these types of sharing are widely applied in practice (e.g. sharing lorries and other vehicles, sharing capacities of lorries or carsharing), others are developing (e.g. strategic employee sharing and ad hoc employee sharing) and others again offer possible potential in future (e.g. peer-to-business lending or sharing machinery and material).

Regional Disparities and Spatial Dependence of Bankruptcy in Spain

Firm survival, bankruptcy, and turnaround are of great interest nowadays. Bankruptcy is the ultimate resource for a company to survive when it is affected by a severe decline. Thus, determinants of firm turnaround and survival in the context of bankruptcy are of interest to researchers, managers, and policy-makers. Prior turnaround literature has broadly studied firm-specific factors for turnaround success. However, location-specific factors remain relatively unstudied despite their increasing relevance. Thus, this paper aims to evaluate the existence of spatial dependence on the outcome of the bankruptcy procedure. Economic geography and business literature suggest that location matters and closer companies behave similarly to further ones. For this purpose, we designed a longitudinal analysis employing spatial correlation techniques. The analyses were conducted on a sample of 862 Spanish bankrupt firms (2004–2017) at a regional level (province). For overcoming the limitations of the broadly usually logistic model employed for the turnaround context, the Moran’s Index and the Local Association Index (LISA) were applied with gvSIG and GeoDa software. The empirical results show that the predictors GDP per capita and manufacturing specialization are related to higher bankruptcy survival rates. Both characteristics tend to be present in the identified cluster of provinces with better outcomes located in the North of Spain. We suggest that location broadly impacts the likelihood of the survival of a bankrupt firm, which can condition the strategic decision of locating in one region or another. Our findings provide policy-makers, managers, and researchers with relevant contributions and future investigation lines.
