Recommended names for pleomorphic genera in Dothideomycetes

Abstract: Abstract:This paper provides recommendations of one name for use among pleomorphic genera in Dothideomycetes by the Working Group on Dothideomycetes established under the auspices of the International Commission on the Taxonomy of Fungi (ICTF). A number of these generic names are proposed for protection because they do not have priority and/or the generic name selected for use is asexually typified. These include: Acrogenospora over Farlowiella; Alternaria over Allewia, Lewia, and Crivellia; Botryosphaeria ove… Show more

“…Although a list has been published of recommendations for competing genera in the Dothideomycetes (Rossman et al 2015b) based on Wijayawardene et al (2014), a number of additional competing generic names have been noted since then and are listed here with recommendations for the generic name to use.…”

“…These papers address genera in the major groups of Sordariomycetes such as Diaporthales (Rossman et al 2015a), Hypocreales (Rossman et al . 2013, Quandt et al 2014), Magnaporthales (Zhang et al 2016), Microascales and Ophiostomatales (de Beer et al 2013), Xylariaceae (Stadler et al 2013) and remaining Sordariomycetes (Réblová et al 2016) as well as Dothideomycetes (Rossman et al . 2015b), Eurotiales (Samson et al 2014, Visagie et al .…”

“…Although, Batzer et al (2008) later considered Z. jamaicensis as distinct from S. pomi, these genera have been shown to be congeneric in phylogenetic studies (Ma et al 2010, Gao et al 2014. Therefore, Rossman et al (2015) choose the name Schizothyrium over Zygophiala as it was the older name. Additionally, Rossman et al (2015) combined nine species in Schizothyrium which were previously named Zygophiala.…”

“…Therefore, Rossman et al (2015) choose the name Schizothyrium over Zygophiala as it was the older name. Additionally, Rossman et al (2015) combined nine species in Schizothyrium which were previously named Zygophiala. Schizothyrium pomi is similar to S. acerinum in some aspects, but in other is unrelated and this will be the subject of a later paper.…”
