Abstract. The rapid deployment of low-cost ubiquitous sensing devices -including RFID tags and readers, global positioning systems, wireless audio, video, and bio sensors -makes it possible to create instrumented environments and to capture the physical and communicative interaction of an individual with these environments in a digital register. One of the grand challenges of current AI research is to process this multimodal and massive data stream, to recognize, classify, and represent its digital content in a context-sensitive way, and finally to integrate behavior understanding with reasoning and learning about the individual's day by day experiences. This augmented personal memory is always accessible to its owner through an Internet-enabled smartphone using high-speed wireless communication technologies. In this contribution, we discuss how such an augmented personal memory can be built and applied for providing the user with context-related reminders and recommendations in a shopping scenario. With the ultimate goal of supporting communication between individuals and learning from the experiences of others, we apply this novel methods as the basis for a specific way of exploiting memories -the sharing of augmented personal memories in a way that doesn't conflict with privacy constraints.

Abstract. Surprising a user with unexpected and fortunate recommendations is a key challenge for recommender systems. Motivated by the concept of bisociations, we propose ways to create an environment where such serendipitous recommendations become more likely. As application domain we focus on music recommendation using MusicGalaxy, an adaptive user-interface for exploring music collections. It leverages a nonlinear multi-focus distortion technique that adaptively highlights related music tracks in a projection-based collection visualization depending on the current region of interest. While originally developed to alleviate the impact of inevitable projection errors, it can also adapt according to user-preferences. We discuss how using this technique beyond its original purpose can create distortions of the visualization that facilitate bisociative music discovery.

El objetivo central de esta tesis fue diseñar, implantar y validar un modelo para la gestión de dominios de contenido en un Sistema Hipermedia Adaptativo aplicado a entornos de educación superior semipresencial. La estrategia de investigación que se utilitzó fue la del "Estudio de Caso", porque permite investigar un fenómeno contemporáneo dentro del contexto de la vida real (Yin 1994). Para la validación del modelo se realizaron los estudios empíricos en los cursos de: Metodología de la Investigación, del Doctorado en Ingeniería Multimedia de la Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña y en el curso de Sistemas de Información de la Licenciatura en Computación de la Universidad de Carabobo.<br/><br/>El estudio realizado ha permitido conocer la percepción de los estudiantes acerca del modelo propuesto. Los resultados de esta investigación indican que el modelo ha tenido un buen efecto en el proceso de enseñanza aprendizaje. Basados en este hecho, los estudiantes han tenido una percepción positiva del sistema y los contenidos presentados se ajustan al perfil de cada usuario. Los resultados de los diferentes ensayos presentan un aporte a las investigaciones que se realizan referentes a la personalización de contenidos en los ambientes de formación en la modalidad Blended Learning. The main purpose of this work was to design, implement and validate a model in order to manage content domains in an Adaptive Hypermedia System applied to higher education environments under blended learning modality. The research strategy used was "Case Study", because it is useful to study a contemporary phenomenon in real-life context. To validate the model, two empirical studies were conducted in the Research Methodology subject of the Multimedia Engineering Doctor's degree in the Polytechnic University of Catalonia and in the course on Information Systems of the Bachelor's Degree on Computing Sciences at the University of Carabobo.<br/><br/>The study made it possible to learn how students perceived the proposed model. The results of this research show that the model has proven to be effective in the teaching-learning process. Based on this fact, the students have had a positive perception of the system. Furthermore, the contents presented fit the profile of each user. The results of the different trials contribute to the research works that are being carried out concerning the personalization of contents in the educational environments based on Blended Learning.
