Recombinant human granulocyte macrophage colony stimulating factor in deep second-degree burn wound healing

Abstract: Background:The aim of this study was to explore the effects of recombinant human granulocyte macrophage colony stimulating factor (rhGM-CSF) on deep second-degree burn wound healing. Methods:In this study, 95 patients with a total of 190 burn wounds were treated with either rhGM-CSF or placebo, separated into 2 groups by treatment type. Wound healing rate, wound healing time, histopathological condition, and scar scale were all compared between the 2 groups. Results:The healing rates in the rhGM-CSF group were r… Show more

“…Several other innovative therapies for burn wound treatment have also been proposed, among which is the use of recombinant proteins [96], such as elastin-like polypeptides [97]. Elastin is a biocompatible natural human skin component with structural functions [97].…”

“…GM-CSF delivery with an alginate dressing was trialled in chronic ulcers, 80 and a GM-CSF-gelatin hydrogel accelerated closure of partial thickness burns when applied daily. [81][82][83] The appearance of established scars was also improved following 12 weeks of twice daily treatment with rhTGF-b3 in a silicone-hyaluronate cream. 84 GF and cytokine delivery systems therefore offer potential as therapies for cutaneous wound indications.…”

“…In clinical practice, recombinant GM-CSF preparations are used in combination with chemotherapy and radiotherapy in the treatment of cancer patients [ 2 ] or in bone marrow transplantation in order to reduce the risk of infections [ 3 ]. In addition, the possibility of using GM-CSF in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases [ 4 , 5 , 6 ], immunotherapy of malignant diseases [ 7 , 8 ], and in autoimmune conditions [ 9 , 10 ] to accelerate wound healing [ 11 , 12 , 13 ] has recently been investigated.…”
