Abstract:Innate immunity senses microbial ligands known as pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs). Except for nucleic acids, PAMPs are exceedingly taxa-specific, thus enabling pattern recognition receptors to detect cognate pathogens while ignoring others.
