New revitalization and regeneration strategies are currently taking place as a scheme for reassessing urban spaces. This paper, as a result, navigates the theory of Urban Acupuncture (UA) as a quick and effective tool that can be adopted in large cities. Using Riyadh city as a case study, it discusses how this tool can be used to achieve maximum results with minimal effort in the most critical places. Riyadh city is the capital of Saudi Arabia and is considered one of the fastest-growing metropolitan cities in the Arab world. Through time, it has transformed into a city with leftover open spaces and an ever-increasing population. The study commences by exploring the term UA and its principles and similarly presents some of its successful international examples. It thereafter delves into the past and current situation in the city to show some of the challenges it faces. The study aims to develop a filtering framework for selecting a suitable sensitive spot that can be used to apply the concept of UA. A conclusion is made that as a small-scale space approach and a progressive concentrated urban renewal strategy.

The word ‘Future’ has been synonymous to ‘Development’ for most of the people. Architects of the Nation strive for a well-developed state, where it reaches towards enhanced living conditions than the present. In this regard of development, structure of Indian government is well defined. The policies designed at central level envision the total development. These policies make the local bodies function on the same lines. They make an impression in common people’s life that there are some positive changes in the cities. These policies also mark an identity, e.g., after implementation of city Development Plans under JNNURM (Jawaharlal Nehru, National Urban Renewal Mission), the buses bought for BRT (Bus Rapid Transport) had become identity of this policy. The meaning of Smart Cities in India also has been interpreted by people in many ways. For cities to become smarter it needs a holistic approach in developing a sustainable urban eco system and thus the roles of various stakeholders become very important in executing this mission. Not only the investors, financial organizations, planners, architects and people in construction industry but the citizens too have role in making cities smart. People of all age, gender, ability and disability are responsible in making a city smart. Education and awareness is the key for making them aware of their participation in the process of development. This paper also mentions the role of educational institutes to make people understand the essence of development.

Pedestrian and bicycle paths considered as Non-Motorized paths are quite responsible for raising the social quality of life for cities' residents and visitors as well, aiming at achieving the highest level of well-being, thus, directly affect the users' level of satisfaction. Based on physical standards represented in environmental and economic attributes, as well as moral standards represented in social, cultural and psychological attributes, the research aims at discussing the role of Non-Motorized paths in raising the cities' social quality of life. The research methodology includes a comprehensive literature review, analytical part and a practical part. The hypothesis of non-motorized paths act as a catalyst to the social quality of life attributes is to be discussed extensively in the literature review, while the analytical part aims at studying the leading international models in social quality of life deducing the full detailed attributes that contribute to measuring and upgrading the quality of non-motorized traffic paths. At the end the practical part includes proposing a platform for design based on selected design theories, targeting recruiting these theories in a functional way, aims at assessing and upgrading local models in Greater Cairo, with the help of the attributes derived from the previous analytical part. The local models in Greater Cairo selected to be in Cairo City Center; Al Shawarby Street, moreover surveys are the Tools of investigation and assessment within thorough observations to the case. The research findings demonstrate the great ability of non-motorized paths in providing safety attributes, and entertainment factors, meeting different cultural and social needs for the users, enhancing as well the aesthetic aspect and the visual image of the city, thus the physical and moral standards are well supported, and the social quality of life is well enhanced.
