“…31 , 32 , 33 Most of the papers on laryngeal nerve morphometry in human beings have used laryngeal nerve fragments obtained during laryngectomy in subjects diagnosed with laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma as their sample or control groups. 40 , 42 , 43 , 44 , 45 , 46 , 47 , 48 …”

“…Motor Endplates.-Piquet et al stated in 1955 that there is a unique type of motor endplate in the thyroarytenoideus which permits it to respond very rapidly. 46 This statement was based only on histo¬ logie study of the larynx;47 other anato¬ mists have been unable to confirm it.43·48 We compared endplate conduction rates in the thyroarytenoideus and the cricothyroideus by stimulating their motor nerves near the larynx. The latencies, recorded with a con¬ centric needle electrode, were corrected for the terminal length of nerve and ranged from 0.8 to 2.2 msec without significant difference between the two muscles in a giv¬ en dog.…”

“…The distribution of myelin fibers in the RLN depends on the level at which the nerves were sectioned; as we move closer to the larynx, mid-sized diameter fibers become more frequent, particularly when assessing the anterior or muscle branch of the RLN. 25,44,46,48,49 According to certain authors, smaller diameter fibers are located in the higher portion of the esophagus and the trachea, the subglottis 25 and the cricopharyngeus muscle. 30 In our sample there was no right to left difference in the distribution of fibers according to the diameter (1μm to 18μm) in both age groups.…”

“…[31][32][33] Most of the papers on laryngeal nerve morphometry in human beings have used laryngeal nerve fragments obtained during laryngectomy in subjects diagnosed with laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma as their sample or control groups. 40,[42][43][44][45][46][47][48] We divided our sample into two groups; one was aged below 60 years and the other was aged 60 years or above. The mean age in the adult group was 46.3 years and the mean age in the elderly group 78.2 years; the mean age interval between groups was 31.9 years.…”
