Abstract: The present work relates diagnosticated cases of fish diseases in the state of São Paulo, Brazil between January/1999 and December/2000. During 1999, the monogenean was the most important parasite (72.9%), followed by Piscinoodinium pillulare (43.2%), Henneguya piaractus (34.2%), Ichthyophthirius multifiliis (23.4%) and copepodids of Lernaea cyprinacea (9.0%). However, in 2000, monogenean showed 78.9%, trichodinids 52.1%, P. pillulare 35.7%, I. multifiliis 29.8% and L. cyprinacea 11.9%. The most infected fish … Show more

“…Another preventive strategy is to supply feed with vitamin supplementation (consisting of 300-500 mg of vitamin C/kg of dry feed) before handling the fish and before the annual cold period, as supplementation may contribute to increasing the immune response of fish against parasites (Martins et al 2002). Among the larvae of O. niloticus that were given feed containing 300 mg of vitamin E/kg, there was also a reduction in the intensity of trichodinids (Cavichiolo et al 2002).…”

“…and Dolops sp. (Martins et al 2002) (Table 3). Since controlling trichodinids using sodium chloride is relatively easy, the use of other products should be evaluated cautiously (Garcia et al 2013), if only because most have not been approved by the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Supply (MAPA).…”

“…The fish's wild population is decreasing and becoming rare to find in nature, due to habitat perturbation (Muchlisin, 2008), low recruitment (Batubara et al, 2020), and high parasite loadings. Generally, parasites are present in the environment and the body of fishes, hence can cause infection when there is an imbalance in the host-parasite relationship (Martins et al, 2002). Parasite development is influenced by several factors, including climate change (Aleuy & Kutz, 2020), temperature increase (Cereja et al, 2018;Hossain et al, 2013;Piasecki et al, 2004), organic enrichment (Muchlisin et al, 2014;Welicky et al, 2017;Yen Le et al, 2014), acidification and dissolved oxygen (Dalu et al, 2012;Sánchez-Hernández, 2017).…”
