Recent trends in batteries and lubricants for electric vehicles

Abstract: Future progress in hybrid and battery vehicles heavily relies on the optimization of involved battery components and lubricants. Attention must specifically be given to the material composition and surface coatings of the electrodes as well as the electrolyte used to maximize energy output, while also ensuring safety. Additionally, prioritizing the effective utilization of specific lubricants for electric motors and various tribological contacts, such as wheel bearings and the steering system, is the prospecti… Show more

“…Study by [62] have started to evaluate the possibility of integrating the cooling system for the CVT fluid and the motor's fluid, and this helps in making the powertrain system more compact and cost effective. Latest review on the lubrication for EV powertrain can be accessed here [95,96] which explored the possibility of integrating the cooling system for all components of an EV powertrain. The literatures also evaluate various possible lubricants for specific EV powertrain that have different requirements than the conventional ICE powertrain.…”

“…These challenges are discussed in [39]. There are various new battery chemistries researched, and some of the latest popular batteries are the sodium-ion batteries [40], bio-inspired material for the secondary application of batteries [41], anionic battery [42], rechargeable Zn-air battery [43], potassium ion batteries [44], batteries related to particular applications such as EVs [45,46], non-aqueous, rechargeable aluminum batteries [47,48], and flexible zinc battery [49]. BMS plays a major role in state monitoring, energy management, communication between hardware and software and the protection of batteries from fault.…”

“…According to Paris Agreement, global temperature increment in this century is limited to 2 °C by consistently reducing the emission of greenhouse gas globally [1]. Transportation sector is the primary contributor to greenhouse gases emission, while traditional internal combustion engine vehicles (ICEVs) contributed to 75 % of carbon monoxide emission [2]. Therefore, the invention of electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) are encouraged to be invented as it will serve as a greener solution.…”
