Recent Research and Application Prospect of Functional Oligosaccharides on Intestinal Disease Treatment

Abstract: The intestinal tract is an essential digestive organ of the human body, and damage to the intestinal barrier will lead to various diseases. Functional oligosaccharides are carbohydrates with a low degree of polymerization and exhibit beneficial effects on human intestinal health. Laboratory experiments and clinical studies indicate that functional oligosaccharides repair the damaged intestinal tract and maintain intestinal homeostasis by regulating intestinal barrier function, immune response, and intestinal m… Show more

“…Krótkołańcuchowe kwasy tłuszczowe hamują proliferację i różnicowanie komórek nowotworowych okrężnicy i regulują egzogenne enzymy metaboliczne, które stymulują aktywację i metabolizm czynników rakotwórczych. Ponadto funkcjonalne oligosacharydy wpływają na poziomy ekspresji genów w komórkach nowotworowych i promują ich apoptozę [Xu i in. 2022].…”

“…Over the past few decades, the significance of functional oligosaccharides has seen a remarkable surge, owing to their potential in promoting human health and enhancing animal nutrition, such as preventing the occurrence of colon cancer, 1 lowering blood glucose levels, 2 exhibiting antioxidant activity, 3 antiobesity, 4 enhancing immune system defense, and repairing intestinal barrier damage. 5 Currently, the industrial production of functional oligosaccharides mainly relies on monosaccharide synthesis and/or polysaccharide degradation methods. Traditional degradation methods, such as chemical and physical degradation, suffer from various disadvantages such as byproduct formation, low target product yield, complex operations, and significant environmental pollution.…”

“…In recent years, the risk of diet-related chronic diseases has increased in the human population, which is closely linked to intestinal health [1]. The human intestine, which contains microorganisms with a population of up to 10 14 , is a complex system and provides a good environment for microorganisms to inhabit [2].…”
