Recent progress in lanthanide-doped luminescent glasses for solid-state lighting applications—a review

Abstract: Nowadays, solid-state white light-emitting diodes (wLEDs) have attracted remarkable attention for applications in general lighting, displays and numerous electronical devices due to their eminent efficiency, longer lifetime and higher mechanical durability compared to traditional incandescent and fluorescent lights. In current commercial wLEDs, a combination of Y 3 Al 5 O 12 :Ce 3+ yellow phosphor with blue LED chip and epoxy resin is generally used to generate white light. However, there are some considerable… Show more

“…Photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) measurements, temperature-dependent PL analysis and assessment of colorimetric properties including Commission Internationale d'Eclairage (CIE) 1931 color coordinates, correlated color temperature (CCT) and color rendering index (CRI) are realized using the same procedure explained comprehensively in our previous papers. 31,34,35 Luminous efficacy values (LERs) are calculated using the following equation: 36 where ( ν ) is the eye sensitivity function and P opt ( λ ) is the spectral density.…”

“…The synthesis of Eu 2+ doped (oxygenated) nitrides require harsh preparation conditions and oen suffers from blue-green light reabsorption, resulting in imbalance in color and reduced luminous efficiency. 2,3 A good quality red emitting phosphor for lamps should be able to be excited by near-UV light (370-410 nm) without reabsorption of visible light and have good chemical stability. In addition, the operating temperature of Pc-WLEDs is over 150 °C, so the ability to maintain excellent uorescence emission at operating temperature is an important indicator to evaluate the phosphor performance.…”

“…[30][31] Accessing improved solar cells may be among the benefits of this phenomenon. 32 The active components leading to sensitized luminescence may be exploited in a variety of forms (glasses and ceramic materials, 33 nanoparticles, 20 polymers, 34 metalorganic frameworks, 35 etc.). In this respect, an optimal mode of implementing it is building up the antenna and the emissive centre into discrete molecules.…”
