Recent hot topics in contrast media

Abstract: This editorial reviews the way in which the facts related to the safety of iodinated and gadolinium based contrast agents have emerged over the last two decades. This is especially important given their ever increasing usage in modern computed tomographic (CT) and Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examinations. It also provides a very useful educational resume of this complex subject.
