Recent developments of monolithic and open‐tubular capillary electrochromatography (2017–2019)

Abstract: Capillary electrochromatography, which combined the high selectivity of highperformance liquid chromatography and the high separation efficiency of capillary electrophoresis, is an attractive separation tool. In this review, the developments on monolithic and open tubular capillary electrochromatography during 2017 to August 2019 are summarized. Considering the development of novel stationary phases is the most active research field in capillary electrochromatography, monolithic capillary electrochromatography… Show more

“…CEC did not become a widely used method for peptide separations and analyses. Recent advances of CEC performed in three modes, that is, in packed, monolithic, and open‐tubular (OT) columns, are presented in general reviews on CEC [139], monolithic CEC [140], and open‐tubular CEC (OT‐CEC) [141]. They mostly deal with new stationary phases, such as microporous materials (MOFs, covalent organic frameworks, porous organic cages, and knitted aromatic polymers, nanoparticles, polymer materials, silica‐based materials, and biomaterials).…”

“…Other operating modes are Capillary Electrochromatography and MEKC. In Capillary Electrochromatography, a stationary phase fills the capillary so making it possible to combine the separation driven by a stationary phase together with adjunctive resolution power provided by a high electrical voltage [91][92][93]. With MEKC, it is possible to separate two neutral species by means of micelles created by a surfactant added to the solution [94].…”

“…It relies on the application of a high voltage, responsible for the generation of an EOF and transportation of analytes and mobile phase to the detector. The high efficiency can be partly ascribed to the flat flow profile of the EOF [5,7,8]. For an in-depth study of the history, potential, advantages, and disadvantages of the CEC, a recent review article, reporting various separations in the field of chiral analysis, could be consulted [9].…”
