Recent Developments of High-Resolution Chemical Imaging Systems Based on Light-Addressable Potentiometric Sensors (LAPSs)

Abstract: A light-addressable potentiometric sensor (LAPS) is a semiconductor electrochemical sensor based on the field-effect which detects the variation of the Nernst potential on the sensor surface, and the measurement area is defined by illumination. Thanks to its light-addressability feature, an LAPS-based chemical imaging sensor system can be developed, which can visualize the two-dimensional distribution of chemical species on the sensor surface. This sensor system has been used for the analysis of reactions and … Show more

“…Then, the pH value is converted to a gray value corresponding to the image. According to this method, the remaining positions of the substrate of the LAPS are irradiated in a certain order, and finally, the chemical distribution image of the solution pH value can be obtained ( Liang et al, 2019a ).…”

“…Light-addressable potentiometric sensor (LAPS) [76] is a surface potential detector, using the beam scanning addressing method to measure the photocurrent response at any point on the silicon wafer, which enables to overcome the problem of limited active sites. [77] By adjusting the light spot diameter, the extracellular potential of the single electrogenic cell including neuron and cardiomyocyte coupled to the LAPS surface can be measured. [78,79] In addition to the spontaneous action potentials of cardiomyocytes, researchers have also demonstrated that the cell shape changes of cardiomyocytes during mechanical contractions could modulate the photocurrents of LAPS.…”
