“…The corona treatment is another eco-friendly physical treatment for the surface modification of natural fibers, which improves the mechanical properties of the fiber and enhances the interfacial adhesion between fiber and matrix. 86 Surface oxidation is the main mechanism of corona treatment, creating etching effects as well as surface roughness and introducing polar groups on the fiber surface that act as free radicals to form covalent bonds with the polymer matrix. 78 Corona is a soft bluish discharge that is produced due to the breakdown of air or other gases between charged electrodes.…”

“…When a strong electrical field is applied to air, it breaks down into ionized molecules, which conduct electricity and therefore affect the surface morphology of fibers. 83,86 Gassan et al 87 showed that corona treatment improves the mechanical properties of jute/epoxy composite by adding/increasing a significant number of polar functional groups to the fiber surface, such as hydroxyl and carboxyl groups, which helps to form covalent bonds with the polymer matrix. This study also showed a decrease in yarn tenacity with increasing corona energy levels, which can be prevented with optimal treatment conditions.…”

“…In recent years, there has been increasing interest in developing novel biocomposites that take advantage of the best properties provided by nature. Automobiles, packaging materials, and household products are major applications for naturalfiber reinforced biocomposites [25,26] (Figure 1). Natural fiber-reinforced composites are used for both interior and exterior automobile parts because of their low weight and excellent isolation properties [27].…”
