Recent Developments in Lanthanide-Doped Alkaline Earth Aluminate Phosphors with Enhanced and Long-Persistent Luminescence

Abstract: Lanthanide-activated alkaline earth aluminate phosphors are excellent luminescent materials that are designed to overcome the limitations of conventional sulfide-based phosphors. The increasing research attention on these phosphors over the past decade has led to a drastic improvement in their phosphorescence efficiencies and resulted in a wide variety of phosphorescence colors, which can facilitate applications in various areas. This review article discusses the development of lanthanide-activated alkaline ea… Show more

“…[ 11 ] Owing to its greater brightness emission and longer‐persistent emission, the aluminate phosphor doped with lanthanides (SrAl 2 O 4 :Eu 2+ ,Dy 3+ ) has been shown to be an excellent long‐lived emissive inorganic phosphor. [ 12–17 ] Phosphorescent pigments typically consist of an energy trap and a crystal of mixed elements. The crystals can be stimulated and charged under an irradiation source.…”

“…Persistent phosphorescence is a phenomenon in which a material re-emits light over long periods (hours) after stopping the excitation irradiation [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]. The term "persistent phosphorescence" is not unique in the scientific literature to describe this phenomenon, other expressions are "long lasting phosphorescence (LLP)", "long afterglow" or simply phosphorescence.…”

“…Rare earth ion-doped luminescent materials are attracting a lot of attention because of their various applications as materials in lighting, leisure luminescent materials, and luminescent diodes [1][2][3]. In particular, the crystalline material tungstic acid is a suitable host material for doping rare earth ions because of its excellent thermal stability, and high energy transfer efficiency from tungsten ions to activator ions [4,5].…”
