Recent developments in chiral capillary electrophoresis and applications of this technique to pharmaceutical and biomedical analysis

Abstract: This paper provides an overview of the current status of chiral capillary electrophoresis (CE). The emphasis is placed on the application of CE in chiral separation of various racemic compounds. During the last two years about 280 papers, several review articles, and two entire issues, edited by S. Fanali (Electrophoresis 1999, 20, 2577-2798, and H. Nishi and S. Terabe (J. Chromatogr. A 2000, 879, 1-471.) have been devoted to chiral CE. Enantiomeric separations of various compounds, e.g., pharmaceuticals, drug… Show more

“…In addition, the opposite direction of mobility of the charged CD and oppositely charged enantiomers results in sample stacking, which improves the separation of the enantiomers. 10 Therefore, anionic CDs should produce higher chiral separation of cationic analytes than neutral CDs. In recent years, anionic CDs were used in the chiral analysis of some ATS by CE.…”

“…Since chiral resolution was first described in CE by Zare and co-workers, 1,2 many CE enantioseparation methods have been reported, as previously reviewed. [3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10] These methods are based on several resolution mechanisms, such as ligand-exchange, inclusioncomplexation, ion-pair interactions, micellar electrokinetic chromatography (MEKC) and microemulsion electrokinetic chromatography (MEEKC). MEEKC has several optimization advantages over other techniques in terms of selectivity, 11 elution range and composition.…”
