Recent Development of Renewable Diesel Production Using Bimetallic Catalysts

Abstract: Renewable diesel as a potential sustainable energy source in future requires catalysts to convert the feedstocks into end products. Among various type of catalysts, bimetallic catalysts are widely applied in the renewable diesel production due to their unique catalytic properties and enhanced catalytic activities, which differ from their parent monometallic catalysts. This mini review comprised of the brief introduction on technologies in producing renewable diesel and aims to discuss the underneath knowledge … Show more

“…This not only reduces the amount of precious metals and the catalyst cost, but also the catalytic activity is greater than that of either single metal catalyst due to the bimetallic synergy. [154] For example, Kim et al [148] studied the depolymerization of soda lignin with bimetallic catalysts under supercritical ethanol conditions. When RuNi catalyst is used, the yield of carbon is the lowest, and the yield of lignin oil is higher that Ru or Ni catalyst.…”

“…The other type of metal oxides, silicon oxide, also known as silica (SiO 2 ), is utilized as catalyst support due to the uniform distribution of pores and pore sizes as well as its good chemical and thermal stability [73]. These features are important as catalyst support is utilized to improve the catalytic activity of reactions [74]. The arrangement of crystalline and noncrystalline silica varies and is shown in Figure 5, where the crystalline silica is in ordered arrangement and the noncrystalline silica (referred as silica glass) is in the disordered arrangement.…”

“…The amount of energy required to run a particular electrical utility can be calculated. The energy is required to meet energy demand in different sectors like domestic, transportation, agricultural and industry [6,7]. Because of the climate change we need renewable energy to do something about this climate change issues, and we know very clearly about the energy crisis and then people thought about some kind of alternative solution [8][9][10][11][12].…”
