Recent Changes and Corrections in the Taxonomy of Indian Pteridophytes: Part-1

Abstract: Taxonomic novelties and changes to Indian Pteridophytes are given briefly here in taxonomic order according to the forthcoming Annotated Checklist of Indian Pteridophytes vol. 3, nearing completion for Summer 2020. We have divided it into two parts, the present first part is from the main text re Families treated in vol. 3, the second part will be from the Appendix of corrections and additions to the previous volumes. Further details of the taxa and references will be given in vol. 3.

“…Because alloPPnet cannot accommodate ploidy levels higher than tetraploid, one accession (× Cystocarpiumroskamianum Fraser‐Jenk. ; Fraser‐Jenkins, 2008; Fraser‐Jenkins et al, 2010), which is an intergeneric allotetraploid hybrid of two other allotetraploids and thus includes four distinct evolutionary histories (Rothfels et al, 2015), was treated by Rothfels et al (2017) as two tetraploids (one for each of its parental genera). With homologizer, this ad hoc solution is not necessary, so we reanalyzed these data with × Cystocarpium roskamianum allotted four tips in the mul‐tree (to accommodate the homeologs of × Cystocarpium ), and most other tetraploids allotted two tips.…”

“…In India, taxonomical studies on the genus have been carried out by various workers (Dixit 1992; Madhusoodanan and Nampy 1994; Antony et al 2002; Ghosh 2004; Nisha et al 2010; Singh et al 2012; Fraser-Jenkins 2016). However, studies on microscpores morphology using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) are sparse and have been carried out only on 10 species (Singh et al 2016), leaving many other Indian species unexamined (Fraser-Jenkins et al 2017; Singh et al 2020).…”

In the present work, we undertake a detailed analysis of microscpores size, color, shape, proximal surface, distal surface, lateral surface and surface ornamentation in 18 species of Selaginellaceae from Arunachal Pradesh, using a light microscope (LM) and SEM.…”
