Agricultural terraces have been widely used, throughout the world, since ancient times. Their scenic interest is undeniable and some are part of the UNESCO World Heritage. They are a very effective practice for soil and water conservation through the control of runoff and erosion, and provide farmers and society with important Ecosystem Services (ES). Here, we present a study based on 36 examples of terraces documented in detail in the WOCAT (World Overview of Conservation Approaches and Technologies) database, complemented with a review of the scientific literature on the impacts of terraces, the objective being to assess the multiple ES they provide. The results show that the most important ES provided by terrace construction relate to regulating services, like control of erosion, runoff, and other off-site natural risks. In addition, terraces contribute to provisioning services like the supply of food, fiber, and water (quantity and quality), and to cultural services through the maintenance of cultural landscapes. Here, we verify the environmental, geomorphological, and hydrological functions of the terraces, as well as the improvement in the quality of life for the local inhabitants. However, technological advances in agriculture have led to the abandonment of this type of construction, with significant risks of erosion and loss of ES. Our assessment highlights the importance of preserving and restoring terraces as part of regenerative agriculture, with multiple benefits for the functioning of cultural landscapes and for society.KEY WORDS: Agricultural terraces; ecosystem services; WOCAT; sustainable land management. This paper makes a faunistic contribution to knowledge of the spider family composition in the experimental research plots of Kasetsart University in Thailand (Kampaeng Saen Campus, Nakhon Pathom province). Spider families were investigated both on the foliage and on the ground in physic nut plantations (Jatropha curcas L.). Ground dwelling spiders were collected by pitfall traps while foliage spiders were sampled by sweeping and hand collecting. In total, 655 spider specimens were collected and identifi ed as belonging to 17 families. The dominant ground dwelling spider families were Lycosidae (50, 1%) and Gnaphosidae (5, 3%) while the dominant foliage spider families were Oxyopidae (14, 4%) and Salticidae (8, 4%). We found that signifi cant determinant of spider diversity and abundance was vegetation and foliage coverage which aff ect number of spider families throughout the investigated area.

This paper presents faunistic records of spiders in the forest ecosystems of the Třesín National Nature Monument. Spiders were surveyed from 29 April 2013 to 25 October 2013. A total of 1012 individual spiders were collected from eight sites by pitfall traps, individual collection, sweeping grasses and herb vegetation, beating shrubs and trees, and shi ing leaf litters. Spiders were identifi ed as 146 species from 94 genera and 27 families. The families Linyphiidae, Lycosidae, Gnaphosidae, and Thomisidae exhibited high species diversity. Three species listed on the Red List of Threatened Species in the Czech Republic were recorded: Dysdera moravica (Řezáč, Gasparo, Král & Heneberg, 2014), Megalepthyphantes pseudocollinus (Saaristo, 1997), and Nusoncus nasutus (Schenkel, 1925). The fi nding of N. nasutus is among the fi rst reports of this spider in the Moravia region. Several fi ndings represent the northernmost occurrences of rare thermophilous spiders in Moravia and even the Czech Republic. The great richness of araneofauna and the occurrence of rare and poorly known spider species confi rm the high biotic value of Třesín within the agriculturally intensifi ed landscape of Moravia.
