One of the most effective approaches to reduce carbon emissions is the integration of renewable energy sources into electrical power networks. Currently, wind turbines are the fastest growing among all renewable sources. With the integration of wind farms into electrical grids, the economic emission dispatch (EED) problem is becoming more complicated due to the stochastic availability of wind energy. In this study, a new approach is proposed to solve the EED problem incorporating wind farms. The problem is formulated as a chance-constrained problem to deal with the stochastic characteristic of wind power. A novel chaotic sine-cosine algorithm (CSCA) is proposed to provide the optimal generation schedule to minimise simultaneously the generation cost and emission. Some weakness has been encountered in exploitation and exploration capabilities in standard sine cosine algorithm (SCA). Hence, the chaos is integrated into the original SCA to improve its performance. In addition, a new mutation strategy is added to the SCA. In this study, the new algorithm is based on three mutually exclusive equations. The new technique is applied on the 69-bus ten-unit and 40-unit test systems with and without wind energy. The results performed by CSCA are compared with those generated by other recent techniques.

This paper presents a hybrid metaheuristic optimization algorithm developed to solve the Economic Dispatch Problem (EDP) encountered in different combinations of power plants. The algorithm is developed by assimilating the prominent features of Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Bat Algorithm (BA) and improves cost reduction and convergence with lesser computational time. The developed algorithm is employed for the solution of EDP consisting of only Renewable Energy Sources (RESs) implemented at various locations in Pakistan. The all RES based EDP consists of scenarios composed of sub-scenarios having no constraints, with time-varying loads and multi-area economic dispatch (MAED). The algorithm is also tested for three different combinations of power plants, comprising of RES integrated with thermal power plants (TPPs), the small-scaled thermal power system with constraints, and a large-scaled power system with Valve Point Loading (VPL) effect. The comparative analysis of the results for the developed metaheuristic algorithm with various existing techniques shows a reasonable reduction in the cost, improved computational time, and fast convergence.

An increase in demand for renewable energy resources, energy storage technologies, and electric vehicles requires high-power level DC-DC converters. The DC-DC converter that is suitable for high-power conversion applications (i.e., resonant, full-bridge or the dual-active bridge) requires magnetic transformer coupling between input and output stage. However, transformer design in these converters remains a challenging problem, with several non-linear scaling issues that need to be simultaneously optimized to reduce losses and maintain acceptable performance. In this paper, a new transformer-less high step-up boost converter with a charge pump capacitorand capacitor-inductor-diode CLD cell is proposed using dynamic modeling. The experimental and simulation results of the proposed converter are carried out in a laboratory and through Matlab Simulink, where 10 V is given as an input voltage, and at the output, 100 V achieved in the proposed converter. A comparative analysis of the proposed converter has also been done with a conventional quadratic converter that has similar parameters. The results suggest that the proposed converter can obtain high voltage gain without operating at the maximum duty cycle and is more efficient than the conventional converter.
