Recent Advances in Thermoresponsive OEGylated Poly(amino acid)s

Abstract: Thermoresponsive polymers have been widely studied in the past decades due to their potential applications in biomedicine, nanotechnology, and so on. As is known, poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) and poly(oligo(ethylene glycol)methacrylates) (POEGMAs) are the most popular thermoresponsive polymers, and have been studied extensively. However, more advanced thermoresponsive polymers with excellent biocompatibility, biodegradability, and bioactivity also need to be developed for biomedical applications. OEGyl… Show more

“…Thermoresponsive polymers, exhibiting a reversible phase transition to temperature, have shown great potential in biomedical areas. Thermoresponsive polymers can be classified into LCST (lower critical solution temperature) types and UCST (upper critical solution temperature) types [ 120 , 121 ]. Among them, PNIPAAm (Poly (N-isopropylacrylamide))-based polymers are one of the most widely studied thermoresponsive polymers owing to their intense volume change with a lower LCST (32 °C).…”

“…Above LCST, P(MEO 2 MA-co-OEGMA 475 ) copolymer becomes completely opaque due to the aggregation of large particles. Polymers can be decorated with ethylene glycol units on the side chain with various main chains composed of polymethacrylate (POEGMA), 104,110 polyacrylate (POEGA), 45 polystyrene (POEGSt), 111 poly(vinyl ether) (POEGVE), 112 polynorbornene (POEGNB), 113 polyether (POEGE), 114,115 polylactide (POEGLA), 116,117 polymethylene (POEGM), 118 polyphosphazene (PBEEP), 119,120 and poly(amino acid) 121,122 (Fig. 3).…”
