Recent advances in the relationship between economic development and carbon emissions

Abstract: PurposeWith the rapid development of the economy, carbon emissions have also risen sharply. This study explores the relationship between the two by combining the literature of relevant fields and maps the analytical framework from the knowledge base to the research frontier model using CiteSpace.Design/methodology/approachUsing CiteSpace and data statistical tools, we conducted a bibliometric and visual analysis of nearly ten thousand research papers on carbon emissions and economic development published in th… Show more

“…This can help increase economic productivity, thus increasing HDI and GDP, and reducing emissions. The results of this study are in line with other studies such as Xu et al (2022), Zhou et al (2022), Emodi et al (2022), Chawla et al (2022), Yin and Jin (2021) and reported a positive relationship between HDI, CO 2 emissions and infrastructure.…”

“…The authors recommended promoting lowcarbon and green development to mitigate global warming. Yin and Jin (2021) investigated the relationship between economic development and carbon emissions by comparing China and the US. They found that countries with high HDI and energy consumption have higher CO 2 emissions.…”

“…Our results indicate that we should at least carefully reexamine how to distribute our resources among various benefits in the future. Due to recent climate change (Yin and Jin, 2020), our study revealed that economic benefits are not currently considered as a significant category of benefits. Our study suggests that considerable international efforts have been made to provide economic incentives for carbon credits with high sustainable development contributions.…”

“…The imperative of GHG, especially CO 2 emissions, result in efforts to discover CO 2 emissions' determinants and solutions to reducing it while still fostering sustainable growth. It is not overstated that the literature on CO 2 emissions is voluminous with various factors confirmed to affect CO 2 emissions, ranging from economic growth (Tabash et al ., 2023; Singh et al ., 2023; Yin and Jin, 2022); finance (Dada et al ., 2022), energy consumption (both renewable and fossil fuel) (Nayaga et al ., 2022; Shobande and Asongu, 2022) and other factors [1].…”
