Recent advances in the analysis of antibiotics by CE and CEC

Abstract: This article reviews the latest advances in the development of analytical methodologies by CE and CEC for the analysis of different groups of antibiotics. CZE and MEKC have been the most employed CE modes. Analytical information on experimental conditions, detection mode, and LOD are provided to the readers. In addition, the main applications performed in the pharmaceutical, biological, food, and environmental fields have been reviewed emphasizing the sample preparation requirements. The publications reviewed … Show more

“…Amino groups in the structure of antibiotics favor using ECL detection, and hence this detection system has been widely used in the determination of antibiotics . ECL detection is a kind of chemiluminescence where chemical luminescence emission is generated in the process of substance oxidation and reduction at an electrode surface.…”

“…The capacitively coupled contactless conductivity detector (C 4 D) has progressed in the last years and the number of applications of CE‐C 4 D has considerably increased in the field of antibiotic analysis as it can be observed in Table . C 4 D presents advantages as the non‐necessity of light absorption by the analytes, easy handling, reduced background noise (in comparison with normal conductivity detection) and robustness.…”

“…Comprehensive overviews of the articles published on the analysis of antibiotics by CE until June 2013 have been reported previously . The present review covers the most recent developments and applications of CE in the analysis of antibiotics grouping the articles published in the two‐year period between June 2013 and June 2015.…”

“…Analytical techniques including high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and gas chromatography (GC) allow the analysis of multiple analytes in the same extract when coupled to a mass spectrometer (MS), the combination of these techniques is commonly employed in environmental analyses [13,14,15,16,17,18,19]. However, detectors other than MS such as ultraviolet (UV), fluorescence (FL), chemiluminescence (CL) and other techniques such as capillary electrophoresis (CE) are also employed [20,21,22,23,24,25]. …”
