Recent advances in Immunobullous diseases

Abstract: The researches in the recent past have led to better understanding of pathogenesis, diagnostic methods and treatment of autoimmune bullous diseases. Significant advances in our understanding of pathogenesis of pemphigus have resulted in development of multiple pathogenic models and discovery of new signalling pathways involved in its pathogenesis. Various newer clinical variants have been described and diagnostic methods have been developed. Disease activity scoring methods in pemphigus provide comparable and … Show more

“…The term pemphigus was derived from a Greek word "pemphix" which means blister. [1] Pemphigus is a group of chronic vesiculobullous, mucocutaneous lesions caused due to the autoantibodies formed against intercellular attachments of keratinocytes leading to the loss of cell-cell epithelial adhesion, and thus mediating the process of acantholysis. [2] The two major variants of pemphigus are pemphigus vulgaris and pemphigus foliaceus.…”
