Recent advances in GelMA hydrogel transplantation for musculoskeletal disorders and related disease treatment

Abstract: Increasing data reveals that gelatin that has been methacrylated is involved in a variety of physiologic processes that are important for therapeutic interventions. Gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA) hydrogel is a highly attractive hydrogels-based bioink because of its good biocompatibility, low cost, and photo-cross-linking structure that is useful for cell survivability and cell monitoring. Methacrylated gelatin (GelMA) has established itself as a typical hydrogel composition with extensive biomedical applications… Show more

“…Gelma, characterized by superior biocompatibility, low‐cost and photocrosslinkable properties, was selected as an ideal material for the preparation of drug‐loaded MNs. [ 23 ] In our study, MNs composed of Gelma loaded with DH and VEGF, DH/VEGF@Gelma‐MNs, were successfully prepared by a vacuum method ( Figure A). Briefly, DH and VEGF mixed with Gelma solution were first cast into the polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) mold and filled with needle tips by vacuum debubbling.…”

“…22 These results corroborate with findings in our previous study. 23 Platinum substrate (Figure 1B, gray line) is a highly conductive material and results in high current presented in its CV when compared to the ITO. GelMA (black line) and GelMA-GO (pink line) also present high currents like platinum substrate (gray line), where no increase in the capacitive current in relation to the platinum only was observed.…”

“…Additionally, collagen possesses matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) target sequences, contributing to its biocompatible degradation and biodegradability. 46 Therefore, GelMA presents significant advantages over collagen in the biomedical field. It retains these bioactive moieties while exhibiting water solubility, higher biocompatibility, lower antigenicity, and lower immunogenicity compared to collagen.…”

“…Collagen contains essential bioactive sequences such as arginine-glycine-aspartic acid (RGD), promoting cell interactions, adhesion, and tissue remodeling. Additionally, collagen possesses matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) target sequences, contributing to its biocompatible degradation and biodegradability . Therefore, GelMA presents significant advantages over collagen in the biomedical field.…”
