“…6 The temperature change was evaluated from the wavelength change of the DFB LD chip of which the wavelength-temperature coefficient was estimated as 0.09 nm∕°C. The Q LD was estimated by subtracting the optical output power from the electric power consumption.…”

“…These requirements, fine tuning and long time stability, can be ensured using Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) thermal controllers with a ± 0.01°C resolution and stability. The used DFB frequency variation with temperature is 10GHz/°C, similar to other cost-effective DFBs [8], so the ± 0.01°C PID resolution will ensure a wavelength stability around 100MHz. If higher stability is required, the PID controller may be upgraded using a low bandwidth photodiode with an etalon [9].…”

“…Moreover, the effective refractive index can change with driving conditions such as laser temperature or laser current. Due to the aforementioned reasons, temperature control is often used to fine-tune the DFB wavelength precisely to an ITU-T grid [7]. Over the device lifetime, the laser diode will exhibit wavelength drift.…”
