Recent advances and prospects of catalytic advanced oxidation process in treating textile effluents

Abstract: AbstractIn the past few years, there have been many researches on the use of different types of homogenous catalyst for the degradation of textile wastewater in conventional advanced oxidation processes (AOPs). However, homogenous AOPs suffer from few limitations, including large consumption of chemicals, acidic pH, high cost of hydrogen peroxide, generation of iron sludge, and necessity of post-treatment. Therefore, recently, there have been more researches that focus on impro… Show more

“…In previous works, scientists designed carbon-supported iron-and cobalt-nitrogen materials constituting active catalysts for the degradation of organic compounds [26][27][28]. And, recent research showed that adding a semiconductor onto a suitable support and coupling two or more semiconductors can decrease the recombination of electron-hole (e-h) pairs, which can increase the activity of the semiconductor [29][30][31][32][33][34].…”

“…Hexanol (C 6 O 4 Ti, 97%) were purchased from Merck (Darmstadt, Germany). Meanwhile, other chemicals such as nitric acid (HNO 3 , 65%), triton X-100 (C 34 H 62 O 11 , AR), potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KH 2 PO 4 ), phosphoric acid (H 3 PO 4 , 85%) and triethylamine (C 6 H 15 N, AR) were supplied by R&M Chemicals (Semenyih, Malaysia)…”

“…The trapped electron could also occur from e − CB to Fe on the photocatalyst before the et is excited again to the TiO 2 surface, and as a result increase the absorbance value of the UV-Vis (3)(4)(5)(6). The e − refers to the electron from Fe itself.…”

“…Nowadays, various industries such as those of textiles, food, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals create large amounts of wastewaters which are extremely harmful to humans and the environment. Particularly, wastewaters from textile enterprises usually contain a high concentration of azo dyes and various recalcitrant organic compounds . Several colorants present in the effluent of textile industries are extremely dangerous to living creatures and encompassing ecosystems.…”
