Recent Advance in Near‐Infrared (NIR) Imaging Probes for Cancer Theranostics

Abstract: With the advantages of low biofluid scattering and minimal absorbance, light in a second near-infrared window (NIR II, 1000-1700 nm) either as a signal or as an excitation source is preferred for bioimaging and disease diagnosis, especially for cancer theranostics. Due to recent advances in chemical synthesis and imaging techniques, various NIR II probes have been evaluated for tumor luminescence image-guided cancer therapy and surgery. Furthermore, probes emitting optical, acoustic, or thermal signals under N… Show more

“…In the remaining participant (8-mg cohort), green urine coloration first appeared in the 2-to 2.5-hour interval. Green urine was observed until 3 to 3.5 hours after dosing in 3 of the 4 participants in the indocyanine green, which are approved for use in other indications, [23][24][25] have revealed deficiencies in optical properties and route of administration and clearance, respectively, that make them unsuitable for such procedures. 12 To address this unmet need, novel NIRF agents are being developed.…”

“…[10][11][12] To date, most research has been focused on the rational design and fabrication of an all-in-one nanotheranostic as an extremely valuable strategy with multifunctional theranostic performance. [13,14] Wang and co-workers designed a novel small-molecule dye DPP-BT, which showed a single NIR laser triggered multifunctional properties for NIR-II fluorescence/photoacoustic (PA)…”
