‘Lanthanide contraction’ in [Ln(BTP)3](CF3SO3)3 complexes

“…Indeed, the Ln elements have been found to show a trend in selectivity as a function of their ionic radii [14]. Hence, the two goals of our present study were (1) 3 was dissolved in 1 ml EtOH, and then three equivalents of 2,6-bis(5,6-dipropyl-1,2,4-triazin-3-yl)pyridine (*65 mg) in 1 ml EtOH (dissolved at elevated temperature) were added. On slow cooling to room temperature, the complexes form crystals of the constitution [Ln(BTP) 3 ](CF 3 SO 3 ) 3 *EtOH in yields of 50-60 %.…”

The radiotoxic minor actinides (Np, Am, Cm) possessing long decay should be transmuted to short-lived radionuclides by neutron bombardment [3]. “…In order to compare the coordination chemistry of 5 with that of the quinquepyridine ligands, we synthesized a palladium(II) complex. The reaction of 5 with Pd(OAc) 2 (1 equivalent) in refluxing methanol 55 afforded a pale green solution from which a pale green precipitate was obtained following the addition of a saturated methanolic solution of ammonium hexafluorophosphate.…”

Advanced Hydrometallurgical Separation of Actinides and Rare Metals in Nuclear Fuel Cycle

“…In this context, the TRUEX (TRansUranium EXtraction) solvent extraction process, using a bifunctional extractant OØD[IB]CMPO (n-octyl(phenyl)-N,N-diisobutylcarbamoylmethylphosphine oxide) with TBP in n-dodecane as the solvent, was successfully found to be a vital method for recycling trivalent actinides (An(III)) from high level liquid wastes (HLW) of spent fuel reprocessing [16]. The separation of trivalent actinides and lanthanides from HLW was investigated by not only CMPO but also malonamide in the European framework projects [17]. These extractants are in the development stage for practical use.…”
