Rebamipide does not interfere with the antitumor effect of radiotherapy or chemotherapy in human oral tumor-bearing nude mice

Abstract: Recent studies have shown that rebamipide, which suppresses reactive oxygen species, prevents chemoradiotherapy-induced oral mucositis in patients with head and neck cancers. However, anticancer action of radiotherapy and chemotherapy is believed to be partially associated with generation of reactive oxygen species. The aim of this study was to determine whether rebamipide interferes with the antitumor action of radiotherapy and chemotherapy. The effect of rebamipide on tumor cell growth was investigated using… Show more

“…All animal experiments were carried out in accordance with the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals of FMMU. A lung cancer xenograft model was established by suspending 5 × 10 6 A549/A549 miR-362 knockout cells in 200 μ l of phosphate-buffered saline and subcutaneously inoculating the solution into the right flanks of nude mice [ 26 28 ]. When the tumor volume reached 100 mm 3 , the drug was administered.…”

“…Allopurinol has a good treatment effect on stomatitis; however, it interacts with fluorouracil, which decreases its anticancer effect, and it has been reported that there are restrictions to its administration [20,21]. On the other hand, RB can be administered in any case because there is no interaction with anticancer agents [22]. In addition, it has been reported that RB works effectively to treat stomatitis as a free radical scavenger, as an anti-inflammatory drug, and by inducing mucosal repair in phases I-IV [8,11,23].…”
