Real-time voxelization for complex polygonal models

Abstract: In this paper we present an efficient voxelization algorithm for complex polygonal models by exploiting newest programmable graphics hardware. We first convert the model into three discrete voxel spaces according to its surface orientation. The resultant voxels are encoded as 2D textures and stored in three intermediate sheet buffers called directional sheet buffers. These buffers are finally synthesized into one worksheet, which records the volumetric representation of the target. The whole algorithm traverse… Show more

“…Combined with the idea of regular distribution and random distribution, we conducted ICP registration based on the grid voxel central point set 26 and ICP registration based on random generating points within the grid to perform comparative experiments. ICP registration based on the grid voxelized center point set is shown in Supplementary Digital Content, Table 3, http://links.lww.com/SCS/D779.…”

“…The print control software orchestrates the activity of each subsystem to execute successful prints. When a build job has been defined, the print control software processes the file in a voxel representation by rendering the geometries at the printer's resolution 51,52 . The voxelization step uses ray tracing to quickly render the input geometries.…”

“…We first convert the input model into a voxelization where voxels intersected by the scene geometry are detected. This conversion can be performed in the GPU (Dong et al, 2004). Our current implementation is based on the voxelization algorithm by Eisemann and Décoret (2006).…”
