A series of Co R Mn-LDH (R = 1, 2, 3, 4, 5) was synthesized by the coprecipitation method. The formation of layered double hydroxides (LDH) phases is confirmed by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) and infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX) shows the total coprecipitation of Co and Mn. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) gives evidence of the joint presence of Co(II), Co(III) and Mn(III) in the LDH structures in proportion depending on the initial R value. The Rietveld refinement of the structure using the XRD data reveals that the sample with a CoMn ratio 3:1 displays a pure LDH phase containing mainly Co(II) and Mn(III) with a M(II)/M(III) of nearly 2.1, in agreement with the X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) results at the Co and Mn K-edges, strong hydrogen bonding network involving CO 3 2-/OHcharge compensating anions in the interlayers. When compared with the other Co R Mn-LDH, the Co 3 Mn-LDH displays the best redox properties in an alkaline medium (0.1 M NaOH) and in a neutral pH (Tris buffer). An indepth study of the Co 3 Mn-LDH obtained after electrochemical oxidation was also performed. The evolution of Co and Mn oxidation state under electrochemical oxidation were evidenced by XPS. Finally, the performance of the Co 3 Mn-LDH modified electrode was determined for the electrocatalytic detection of hydrogen peroxide.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) exhibit different spatial and temporal distributions as well as concentrations in-and outside the cell, thereby functioning as signaling or pathogen-destroying molecules. Especially the ROS H 2 O 2 is important for the patho/physiological status of an organism. Electrochemistry (EM) and electron spin resonance (ESR)-based techniques allow quantification of H 2 O 2 in artificial and living systems, coping a concentration range from low nM up to mM. Working electrodes for EM are optimized by diverse modifications and, additionally, redox mediators are used. Ultramicroelectrodes allow scanning of single cells to spatially resolve and quantify extracellular H 2 O 2 in real-time. With ESR spectroscopy, • O 2¯, but not H 2 O 2 , can be directly determined by spin probes in-and outside of cells in suspensions. Monitoring H 2 O 2 requires formation of intermediate radicals, detectable with spin probes. Low μM [H 2 O 2 ] can thus be assessed specifically. Using suitable spin traps, in-vivo ESR and immuno-spin trapping can visualize different radicals at their respective production sites in small animals, organs and tissues. Here, the redox reaction cascades may interfere with cell metabolism. Optimization of all methods established for H 2 O 2 determination would be favorable to finally combine them for mutual validation. Thus, a deeper insight into cellular ROS metabolism can be obtained.

Herein, we have summarized and argued about biomarkers and indicators used for the detection of SARS-CoV-2. Antibody detection methods are not considered suitable to screen individuals at early stages and asymptomatic cases. The diagnosis of COVID-19 using biomarkers and indicators at point of care level is much crucial. Therefore, it is urgently needed to develop rapid and sensitive detection methods which can target antigens. We have critically elaborated key role of biosensors to cope the outbreak situation. In this review, the importance of biosensors including electrochemical, surface enhanced Raman scattering, field-effect transistor and surface plasmon resonance biosensors in the detection of SARS-CoV-2 has been underscored. Finally, we have outlined pros and cons of diagnostic approaches as-well-as future directions.
