Security plays an important role in our everyday lives be it in a personal, residential, commercial or enterprise setting. In the traditional home security setting, user can retrieve the video captured from the closed-circuit television (CCTV) when needed. However, user will not be notified when there is intruder. This disadvantage can be overcome by inculcating the idea of Internet of Things (IoT) into home security system. Smart home security system can integrate various types of sensors such as motion sensor, humidity sensor and temperature sensor together with electrical appliances in house such as CCTV camera, lights and fans. Smart home security system is capable to send notification to alert user if detected any house scenario which is abnormal so that user can act immediately upon receiving the notification for appropriate action. This helps to ensure the security of house. There are various home security systems proposed by past researchers. Therefore, this paper aims to provide a comprehensive review on the proposed designs and to analyse and compare the results to determine the challenges and prospect in this field of technology.

This paper presents a solution for remote classes where hardware is offered as a service. The infrastructure was based on Raspberry Pi mini computers to which a set of different developments boards were connected. The proposed software architecture allows students to connect to remote resources and interact with them. Moreover, the services monitoring status of remote resources were introduced to facilitate software development and the learning process. Furthermore, live video feedback is available to visually monitor operation of the resources. Finally, a debugging server was deployed allowing us to establish a remote debugging session between a user’s PC and the dev board on the server premises. The solution offers a comprehensive remote service including user management. Safety risks of the Internet-exposed infrastructure and safety precautions were discussed. The presented RemoteLab system allows students of WUST to gain knowledge, practise and realize exercises in scope of academic courses such as robot controllers and advanced robot control. Thanks to advances in remote education and utilized tools, the RemoteLab was designed and deployed, allowing stationary classes to be substituted with remote ones, while maintaining a high level of class knowledge transfer. Up to the present, the system has been utilized by over 100 students who could realize exercises and prepare for classes thanks to 24 h system availability.

The integration of smart home technology with chatbot applications has enabled homeowners to remotely monitor and control various aspects of their homes. This combines smart home security and air quality monitoring using a Telegram chatbot. The proposed system uses a Raspberry Pi and ESP32 as the central hub to control sensors and actuators. The system uses sensors to detect changes in the environment, such as, temperature, humidity and air quality through Ionizer. The chatbot interface allows homeowners to receive real-time notifications on their Telegram app when an intrusion or air quality hazard is detected. The system also includes a camera that captures images to store data using LBPH algorithm for feature extraction.
