Real-time Monitoring and Detection of Drinkdriving and Vehicle Over-speeding

Abstract: Abstract-Drink-driving and over-speeding of vehicles are the major causes of injuries and deaths on the road globally and South Africa (SA) is not an exception. Different systems which are currently used in detecting high alcohol concentration in drivers' breath and detecting vehicles that exceeds stipulated speed limit are not effective, efficient and poses health risks to traffic personnel. In an attempt to provide effective solutions to these challenges, this paper proposed a smart transportation system for… Show more

“…These results can be used for selection of the optimal parameters for applications where a large batch of data needs to be processed, for example, for monitoring real-time road condition in advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), where such specialized architectures like TPU, TCU, and FPGA-based solutions can be deployed [19]. For example, it is especially important for various complex ADAS-related tasks like real-time obstacle and lane detection [20][21], traffic video analysis under impact of noise [22], and monitoring driver behavior even [23].…”

“…Similarly, [13], proposed an approach that automatically monitors drinking-and-driving and speeding on South Africa's roads without deploying a manual system with the aid of IOT's vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs), and cloud computing to introduce an innovation into the transport system but only presented a theoretical-design of the work, also more IoT devices have to be installed on all the vehicles. Furthermore, [14], employed computer vision approach and used of an algorithm which utilizes processing of video image and an optical camera to detect vehicle speed in a précised manner with the aid of only a video camera and a computer and concurrently detect vehicle speed in different lanes with an error of less than 7%.…”

“…In India Various causes of road accidents show drivers neglect 4,037 times, passenger's carelessness 40 times, overtake 150, speed 700, drink and driving 800, technical problem 295, animals 20, road condition 60 approximately. In order to overcome these problems, many automobile industries have tried to propose speed control techniques in order to keep up a vehicle safe distance [6]. Unnecessary Speed is a factor in one third of all deadly crashes.…”
