Real-time Load Determination of Wheel Loader Components

Abstract: Adapted vehicle control systems can reduce the stresses and damage, the machine downtime and consequently the operating and maintenance costs of mobile machines. Researchers of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) have therefore developed a method for real-time load determination using the example of a wheel loader boom.

“…In practical operation, the gravity centre of the materials in the bucket is not in the ideal position, namely the gravity centre is not in the vertical plane passing through the O 1 -axis (Figure 4). At this time, the phenomenon of so-called bias load (unbalanced load) appears, which causes the generation of the tilt cylinder force (some scholars ignored it 5,1117,2630 ). If this factor is not taken into account in the weighing model, the weight measurement of the materials will have greater errors (it has been confirmed in Validation analysis Section).…”

“…In fact, the moment of inertia of the whole mechanism (including the bucket) around the fixed O 0 -axis is a time-varying variable in the process of up-down motion of the working mechanism. It has been found through many simulations that the influence of the change on the measurement accuracy of the weighing model could not be ignored (but the scholars ignored it 5,11–20,2630 ). So 0Jmechw needs to be refined in (15).…”
