This paper proposes a method for 3-D sound source localization (SSL) using region selection and TDOA. 3-D SSL involves the estimation of an azimuth angle and an elevation angle. With the aim of reducing the computation time, we compare signal energies to select one out of three regions. In the selected region, we compute only one TDOA value for the azimuth angle estimation. Also, to estimate the vertical angle, we choose the higher energy signal from the selected region and pair it up with the elevated microphone's signal for TDOA computation and elevation angle estimation. Our experimental results show that the proposed method achieves average error values of 0.778° in azimuth and 1.296° in elevation, which is similar to other methods. The method uses one energy comparison and two TDOA computations therefore, the total processing time is reduced.키워드 : 방위각, 높이, 신호 에너지, TDOA

Abstract:A Loran-C system is a hyperbolic navigation system which works based on time difference of arrival (TDOA). Cycle identification is the task of finding time of arrival of the incoming signal. Finding time of arrival of the signal needs choosing a reference point which is defined to be the third zero crossing of the signal. ECD is the varied Loran-C signal's envelope from the original pulse. Cycle identification and ECD estimation accuracies have considerable effects on the Loran-C system receivers' localization accuracy and the error in cycle identification or ECD estimation has direct effect on each other so it is important to estimate the reference point and ECD as precise as possible. In this paper, algorithms for cycle identification and ECD estimation are proposed.Furthermore, this paper addresses the problem of the reference points existence between two samples and proposes two algorithms to estimate the reference points time of arrival between two samples which leads to reach high accuracy using low sampling frequency. The simulation results show that the proposed methods for cycle identification and ECD estimation are robust in noisy conditions and intersample cycle identification algorithms give accurate estimate of the reference points between two samples.

Desired/undesired speech discrimination is as important as speech/non-speech discrimination to achieve useful applications such as speech interfaces and teleconferencing systems. Conventional methods of voice activity detection (VAD) utilize the directional information of sound sources to distinguish desired from undesired speech. However, these methods have to utilize multiple microphones to estimate the directions of sound sources. Here, we propose a new method to discriminate desired from undesired speech with a single microphone. We assumed that the desired talkers would be close to the microphone, and the proposed method could distinguish close/distant-talking speech from observed signals based on the kurtosis of the linear prediction (LP) residual signals. The experimental results revealed that the proposed method could distinguish close-talking speech from distanttalking speech within a 10% equal error rate (EER) in ordinary reverberant environments with less processing time.
