ResumenLa dermatitis atópica es una dermatosis pruriginosa crónica, cuya prevalencia se ha triplicado en los países industrializados durante las últimas tres décadas. La forma de manifestación y tiempo de evolución de esta patología se ha relacionado con un deterioro en la calidad de vida de los pacientes y su familia.Objetivos: Evaluar los efectos y resultados del tratamiento homeopático como manejo complementario o alternativo en la calidad de vida del paciente pediátrico con dermatitis atópica.Métodos: Se realizó una búsqueda crítica de literatura en las siguientes bases de datos PUBMED, MEDLINE, EMBASE, SCIENCE DIRECT, SPRINGERLINK y OVID-JOURNAL, utilizando las palabras clave: Homeopatía, dermatitis atópica, calidad de vida, pacientes pediátricos.Resultados: Revisión de estudios de cohorte multicéntrico prospectivo, estudio de observación clínica, y estudio observacional prospectivo de Europa y América latina sobre los efectos del tratamiento homeopático individualizado en la calidad de vida del paciente con dermatitis atópica.Conclusiones: La homeopatía como tratamiento alternativo o complementario en el paciente pediátrico con dermatitis atópica, ha mostrado una mejoría significativa de los síntomas asociados a esta afección mórbida y su repercusión en el estado general del paciente tanto anímico, afectivo y social y por ende la mejoría en la calidad de vida de sus familiares también. En los estudios al comparar tratamiento convencional y homeopatía, no se encuentra diferencias significativas en los resultados, esto demuestra la eficacia del tratamiento homeopático, no efecto placebo, y sin efectos adversos.Palabras clave: Homeopatía, calidad de vida, paciente pediátrico, dermatitis atópica, eccema. Background: Seasonal allergic rhinitis (SAR), also known as hay fever, is a widespread chronic respiratory disease. In treatment of SAR the use of complementary therapies is increasing, but little has been published about homeopathic complex remedies so far. Therefore, we think it is time to conduct and publish an appropriate observational study. Methods: Course of single symptoms, impairment of quality of life, general efficacy, and tolerability of a homeopathic complex remedy containing active substances on a low dilution level have been assessed and analyzed. Altogether, 123 patients with a history of allergic rhinitis of up to 45 years have been observed for about 4 weeks. Results: The majority of symptoms were shown to improve substantially and the patients' quality of life increased clearly. The overall symptom score decreased significantly from 10.3 ± 4.7 to 3.9 ± 3.1 points (p < 0.0001), and reduction of impairment of quality of life from 5.7 ± 2.3 to 1.9 ± 1.8 score points was also significant (p < 0.0001). Rating of efficacy of study medication was markedly better than efficacy rating of previous therapies (p = 0.0193). Apart from one temporary allergic reaction, the treatment was well tolerated. Conclusion: The homeopathic complex remedy (Pascallerg®) tested in this observational study offers a useful option in treatment of SAR in children and adults.

Key concepts of the Nanoparticle-Allostatic Cross-Adaptation-Sensitization (NPCAS) Model for the action of homeopathic remedies in living systems include source nanoparticles as low level environmental stressors, heterotypic hormesis, cross-adaptation, allostasis (stress response network), time-dependent sensitization with endogenous amplification and bidirectional change, and self-organizing complex adaptive systems. The model accommodates the requirement for measurable physical agents in the remedy (source nanoparticles and/or source adsorbed to silica nanoparticles). Hormetic adaptive responses in the organism, triggered by nanoparticles; bipolar, metaplastic change, dependent on the history of the organism. Clinical matching of the patient’s symptom picture, including modalities, to the symptom pattern that the source material can cause (cross-adaptation and cross-sensitization). Evidence for nanoparticle-related quantum macro-entanglement in homeopathic pathogenetic trials. This paper examines research implications of the model, discussing the following hypotheses: Variability in nanoparticle size, morphology, and aggregation affects remedy properties and reproducibility of findings. Homeopathic remedies modulate adaptive allostatic responses, with multiple dynamic short- and long-term effects. Simillimum remedy nanoparticles, as novel mild stressors corresponding to the organism’s dysfunction initiate time-dependent cross-sensitization, reversing the direction of dysfunctional reactivity to environmental stressors. The NPCAS model suggests a way forward for systematic research on homeopathy. The central proposition is that homeopathic treatment is a form of nanomedicine acting by modulation of endogenous adaptation and metaplastic amplification processes in the organism to enhance long-term systemic resilience and health.
