Education should produce the next generation through Islamic boarding schools who have the character to take control of the state. It is hoped that it will produce the next generation with strong character to accept the baton of leadership. Education has an important role in shaping society, especially among teenagers who are experiencing changes in themselves. With education at an Islamic boarding school, we can overcome moral problems in teenagers, although not completely, and reduce the problems that are currently troubling a country. There are many worries among educators that internal and external factors are not in control of teenagers' education. One external factor that appears and is very influential is smartphones, which can open sites that are not educational, and an internal factor is the lack of attention of parents towards their children.

Jihad is often identified with violence. The destruction of objects that are claimed to be un-Islamic is frequently become the target of jihad by some Islamic groups. As a result, Islam is often accused of being a religion of violence and terrorism. GEMA Pembebasan is a Student movement that aspires to the establishment of Islamic State in Indonesia. The GEMA jihad model is fighting against the unbeliever. In this case, GEMA is not interpreted Jihad as a learning jihad, political jihad, economic jihad, and so on. The GEMA Liberation jihad model keeps the dark sides of radicalism that threaten the socio-cultural of Indonesia. GEMA Liberation Jihad impacts on the frequency of Islam being accused as a radical religion and terror.

The findings show that the students’ view on Jihad is not merely identical to fighting but also the application of Jihad, which varies. It has a wide spectrum as long as its purpose and still in the religious morality frame. Spreading Rahmatan (affection) concept and The word jihad, which mentioned in the Qur'an about 35 times, including its derivations, has often been understood only at the scriptural level, detached from its contexts. As a result, jihad has been assumed to be a specific act of violence, such as terrorism and radicalism. This article aims to explain the concept of jihad in Islam from the perspective of Indonesian Muslim students at Universitas Islam Negeri Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, Indonesia, and to explore the factors that influence their understanding of jihad. This study adopts a semantic approach to the teaching of jihad in the Qur'an, contextualizing it with the current situation. The findings show that the students' view of jihad is not limited to physical fighting, but also includes a wide range of other applications, as long as they are motivated by religious morality. The moral and spiritual values implicit in jihad include spreading the concept of rahmahan (affection) and promoting peace of life and spiritual values
