Writing is a very important language skill in school. However, there are still many students who need help with writing. This study analyzes learning to write narratives by applying the traditional game of throwing sandals. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. The research subjects were 18 elementary school students. Data were collected through observation, questionnaires, and story-writing skill tests; After that, the data was evaluated using data reduction, data display, and verification methods. The results showed that learning to write narratives using the traditional game "Throw Sandals" impacted student activity, namely an average score of 3.7 and above, and students were enthusiastic about learning. Judging from the student's response to the traditional game of throwing sandals, an average score of 3.8 was obtained, and the average score for students' narrative writing ability was 82.4. These findings conclude that learning to write narratives using the traditional sandal-throwing game method can be successful, and students can easily express ideas from the experience gained. The traditional game of throwing sandals makes children interact with each other and can help shape and maintain a child's social spirit. Traditional games can encourage students' thinking to be more creative and increase self-confidence. Based on the research results, it can have implications for the quality of learning and the introduction of Indonesian culture to students.

Reading is a strong foundation that must be instilled in the early grades and is the key to successful learning in subsequent classes. The essence of reading is to understand what is being read. This study aims to analyze important elements in improving the teaching of reading for comprehension. This research is qualitative research with a descriptive approach. The stages passed in this research begin with planning, research, implementation, data analysis, and then writing reports. The subjects in the study were two supervisors, two literacy coaches, two principals and six early-grade teachers. The results of interviews and observations explain that there are nine important elements in improving the teaching of reading for understanding. Some of those things are getting into the habit of making connections between the book and the outside world.

Reading difficulties are a common problem faced by early grade elementary school students who have learning difficulties. Students' reading difficulties will have an impact on low student learning outcomes and will have an impact on students' acquisition of knowledge at the next level. The aims of this study is to analyze teacher’s strategy to overcome students early reading difficulties. This research is a descriptive qualitative research. The subjects of this study were 1 school principal, 2 teachers, and 16 grade II elementary school students. Data collection techniques using interview techniques, observation, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out by reducing data, presenting data and drawing conclusions. The results of this study are the strategies used by teachers comprises of differentiated instructions, assessments to determine the next suited treatment based on students’ needs, and the use of learning media based on students’ level of reading skill. It can be concluded that the teachers as someone who is responsible for their students must be aware of their needs and best suited strategies that met students’ needs.
