Reactive power impact on reliability of 220kV Taiyuan Power System

Abstract: Reactive power plays a crucial role in power system operation and voltage management. However reactive power issues have rarely been considered in reliability evaluation of power systems. This paper investigates the effect of reactive power on reliability of the 220kV Taiyuan Power System in Shanxi Province of China. Reactive power shortage and the associated voltage violations due to the failures of reactive power sources have been considered in the studies. The results provide system planners and operators v… Show more

“…The program can be used to evaluate any power systems with the limited buses. The modified IEEE 30-bus system [20] and a practical power system [21] are analysed as examples to illustrate the proposed technique. Failures up to the second order have been considered in the analysis.…”

“…Several methods have been recently introduced in the literature of power system reliability to investigate the effects of lack of reactive power support on the reliability indices. For example, using the AC power flow model in 'two steps' to study the aspects of the reactive power on the composite system reliability has been introduced in [2][3][4][5].…”
